Healthy Families New York Holds Second Annual Fatherhood Summit
Healthy Families New York (HFNY) hosted its second annual Fatherhood Summit for local district representatives and staff of programs that specifically work to engage fathers in their childrens' lives. The training offered the opportunities to gain practical knowledge to be used in the field, to network, and to bring new ideas to the table about how to engage fathers across the state.
Participants were broken up into several groups for most of the day-long conference, allowing for roundtable discussions about successes and the challenges of engaging fathers. There was also a presentation by Reggie Cox, founder of the Changing Lives Father’s Program and the Fatherhood Connection. The Fatherhood Summit is predicated on the belief that fathers are crucial to the safety, permanency, and well-being of their children, and should strive to maintain healthy relationships with their children.
HFNY is an OCFS initiative, in partnership with Prevent Child Abuse New York and the Center for Human Services Research at SUNY Albany. The goals of HFNY include preventing child abuse and neglect; promoting positive parenting and parent-child interaction; ensuring optimal prenatal care, health and development; and enhancing family self-sufficiency. OCFS currently funds 36 HFNY programs in communities throughout the state.
